But adding in the perfect face base won't hurt...
I recently posted something on my Instagram (go check out jessejoybeauty and follow me for all things makeup and beauty related!), which got me thinking about holiday makeup.
I don't know about you, but when I'm out and about during the day on holiday, I really like to still have a makeup base on. I don't like the heavy feel of a liquid foundation (also not a good combination with hot, sweaty skin!), but I do like to dust over my face with a powder foundation.
Now, when I say powder foundation, don't get confused with one of my previous blog posts on setting powder. Setting powder is something you can use after applying a liquid foundation that helps set everything in place and gives you a real matte finish.
Powder foundation isn't loose powder. It's a compressed powder, and works to offer you just as much coverage as a normal liquid foundation. The main difference being, that it's much lighter on the skin and breathable.
When you're on holiday in a hot climate, you really need your skin to be able to breathable. You don't want to clog your pores up too much with a liquid foundation. Dusting your face with a light layer of powder foundation leaves your skin feeling a little more free, and able to catch some all important vitamin D. Important message here, don't forgot your sunscreen! It's so important to look after your skin in the sun and it also help to prevent your skin from prematurely aging too.
So, without further ado, I want to share with you all my all-time favourite powder foundations.

The first powder foundation I want to introduce to you all, is the Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation by MAC Cosmetics.
This powder foundation retails at £27, and has been a staple in my makeup bag for around 7 years. It works wonders at providing you with a medium to full, ultra matte finish. It's meant to last for up to 12 hours, but I find throughout the day I need to dust over my skin several times. That doesn't mean, however, that it wouldn't work a full day for you. My skin type is combination/oily and gets considerably shiny throughout the day, so just needs a little extra help.
The colour choice for this powder really is amazing! I have two different shades - one I wear during the Autumn/Winter months when I'm embracing my English Rose paleness, and another for the Spring/Summer months when I have a little more of a tan. There really is something for everyone. MAC has done extremely well with their colour pallette on this product. Well done MAC!
The second powder foundation I'm going to speak about is the Airbrush Flawless Finish Skin Perfecting Micro-Powder (gosh, try saying that after a couple of proseccos!) by Charlotte Tilbury.
This powder foundation retails at £35, so quite a bit more expensive than the MAC. It's a newer addition to my makeup bag, but I love the finish it gives. This product doesn't tend to give as full a coverage as the MAC does, but works wonders at preventing excess shine and really does brighten your complexion. It's a great one to wear during the day on holiday as it feels like you're not wearing anything!
The colour palette only offers 3 shades - light, medium and dark. A vast difference to the large number of shades available in the MAC powder foundation. I use the Medium shade all year round and it works for me. However, I still feel Charlotte Tilbury should look to widen their colour choice for this product.

Overall, I'm a real fan of both these products and I reach for them daily.
If you're new to powder foundation, then I would steer you towards the MAC product first. Not only due to the lower price point, but also the large range of available shades means you can find the exact one for you.
Tell me, do you have a favourite powder foundation? I'm all ears when it comes to hearing about new makeup products and testing them out! Leave a comment for me in the comments box below.
For now, have a lovely weekend and I shall chat with you all next week.
Love,
Jesse Joy xx
