A whole blog post dedicated to lashes... this is pretty serious stuff right?! However, you'll be amazed at the difference individual lash extensions (when done right), can make to your already fabulous features. Remember; beauty tricks and tips are not there to change you, only to enhance your natural beauty and in some, increase your confidence too.
I've been a lover of the fuller lash look for years and used to use strip lashes to create a more open eye, dramatic look with my favourite brands being Eyelure and Cherry Lashes. *I will write a separate blog post on strip lashes in the future for those of you who are wanting to give them a try - at first they can be quite tricky to put on!
And then, about 2 years ago my best friend introduced me to the most amazing Lash Artist and I've never looked back.
Following a thorough consultation my Lash Artist analysed the shape of my face, my eyes, the length of my lashes and their natural curve. We then discussed the look I wanted to achieve and she would advise, based on her expertise, what would suit me best and then finally completed a patch test.
I cannot stress enough - if you want to try individual lash extensions you must invest the time in finding someone who is recommended and has completed all training required. Your eyes are so sensitive, so please don't just go to someone because they are cheap, you must go to someone who is a trained professional. I would recommend following a professional on Instagram or Facebook and reviewing their work (most Lash Artists will watermark their photos with their logo, so you know it is their own work). Also review the feedback from their clients on their website and social media pages.
You can get a wide range of different individual lashes. You don't have to go for the dramatic full look like I do, which is called the Russian Volume look, you can also go for a classic simple look too.
The first sitting of a fresh new set will take about 2 hours. Be prepared that your eyes must remain shut for this whole time as the Lash Artist will be working through gluing the extensions to your own lashes. It is strange when you first start going, but after a while you end up looking forward to the 'lash sleep'.
My lashes will usually last around 3 weeks before I need a infill. My infills can vary from 45mins to 1 hour and 30mins depending on my natural lash shedding cycle and how many new lashes I need.
It is recommended that every now and again you take a break and your Lash Artist will usually recommend when they believe this should be.
However, I warn you now, once you start having individual lashes, when you take a break you actually feel naked! Having lash extensions become a real part of you and your look.
Price point can vary depending on area and Lash Artist. My Last Artist costs £100 for a brand new full set and usually around £60 for an infill. You really do pay for what you get. My Lash Artist is amazing and I wouldn't trust nor want anyone else.
Lash extensions can be seen as some, as a lot of money and ongoing maintenance however, waking up every morning and not having to put on mascara is a blessing and real time saver! Some will feel so comfortable with their lashes that they feel no real need to wear any other makeup - which is great when you are going away on holiday too!
So, remember - keep your standards high and your lashes long!
